Here’s a selection of customer reviews and comments regarding Fly Rod Saver:

I have to say that your product is the result of a simple, but brilliant idea that has been very cleverly executed. The quality of the product is very high and with care, should last a lifetime.
I bought two of the FlyRod Savers for my brother and he was equally impressed. Just one idea – how about producing them in a fluorescent green or orange to increase standout during times of poor visibility / bad light ?
I can see some of the bigger tackle manufacturers trying to copy this very quickly, so I hope you are well protected under the copyright & patent legislation.
Thanks for a great piece of kit that will undoubtedly make my life easier at the water’s edge.
Kind Regards

Many thanks for the quick delivery of the 2 rod savers, I think they are just brilliant, in fact I’m so impressed I have just ordered another 2 from you as a gift to my friend. Well done on a great idea brought to life after your bit of a battle with all the regs and rules etc, best wishes.

Just wanted to give you some feedback – I love the Fly Rod Saver! It’s small, solid, flexible, and easy to use. I love that it clips to my wading belt and is lightweight.
Best.

Took the Rod Saver today for the first time, it will be coming with me from now on, just a matter of remembering to use it!!
Anyone who cares about their rods (and how much they cost) should invest in one of these, I would highly recommend anyone to buy one.
Thanks once again for your ingenuity in producing it.

I’ve finally had a chance to use my Fly Rod holder today and must admit; I’m impressed!
The tough plastic spike certainly stood up to nearly frozen ground and penetrated with ease; it was extremely firm. I used it after setting up to hold the rod before closing the car and again throughout the day whilst changing flies or stopping for a natter. My only gripe is with the cork/handle grip which could do with a slight lip to help it over the handle, I had to bend back the securing clips and ease it around. Once in however, it was very secure on the rod (Hardy Zenith) and I used it with complete confidence. It’s definitely staying in my bag and will be with me from now on.

Great product!

My first thoughts on seeing the fly rod saver were sceptical but I tried this out yesterday at my local river. When i first got to the river i put the rod saver in the ground it went in easy and seemed very solid although the bank was quite soft there might have been problems if if was rocky. When my line had been put through the rings i put the rod in it while tackling up, the butt went in the holder easy enough and it held very firm and it would have stayed there no problem if it had been windy. When you need to change a fly or have a break the rod saver is a great gadget no more leaning your rod against a tree or laying it on the floor with the fear of treading on it which to be honest i have never done but I’ve come close to a hundred times. Carrying it around is easy I just put a bulldog clip on the ring and clip it onto my bag when on the move, its also very light so no there’s weight issues. Its build quality is good it should last years, as for price it does seem a bit expensive but if you tread on your rod that will be even more so, If you normally fish with two rods its ideal for keeping one out of the way. After using it i think its a good investment and it does the job its made for and does it well. As for recommending it i think its one of those products you wish you had bought after you’ve trod on your rod and broken it. It’s a really good product and there’s no way i’d be without mine!

Just received my rod saver, haven’t been out fishing yet but have tested in the back garden. The build quality is good and can see it lasting a long time! It goes easy into the ground and is very light but still strong! I don’t think that £10 plus shipping is expensive due to the price of a broken rod! I am also looking at a way to secure it to my boat seat to keep the rod safe when I’m not using it or traveling in the boat! Thanks again!

My fly rod saver arrived mid week but i’ve not had chance to try it out until today. First impressions were good, it’s a well thought out and made product. I arrived on the the bank this morning, stuck the saver in the ground ( which was easy ) and tackled up. It was a windy day today but the rod didn’t budge and made tackling up easier than just laying the rod on the ground.I took two rods out with me today one a #6 and the other #7, not worrying about the spare rod was a real blessing. Oh and i caught 3 rainbows today which was a bonus

I received my Fly Rod holder two weeks ago too but have had flu since then but managed to take it with me pike fishing yesterday. I was not sure of the idea on initially reading about it and I had doubts over leaving it behind due to the colour blending in with the bankside vegetation. On opening the first thing that struck me was the colour is perfect. It is not too garish that’s offensive but also although olive/pale green you can see it easily. It is solidly made and there is nothing that can really break on it.
It pushed into the semi-frozen ground easily and I put my 9ft 9# TCR in it without any trouble and don t believe it will mark or damage the cork in the long term as the clips are very forgiving yet still hold the rod in place. It was windy but the rod sat upright for the whole session. I was also fishing with a 9ft RPLXi 10# which has a very bulbous fighting butt which did not fit into the bottom well of the rod holder. However it still clipped in to the clips around the reel seat, nestled nicely on top of the well, and stayed upright in the wind. Compared to many fishing gadgets I d say it is a fair price as it will stop your rod from being irritatingly damaged and it will be coming sea trout fishing with me. Also how about a horizontal boat clamped model?

First Thoughts – When I first saw information on the forum about the Fly Rod Saver I thought what a great idea. Having had a few near misses with my rods when fishing with a clumsy friend of mine I had to get one.

When I received the Fly Rod Saver through the post I was keen to look it over and see if it would be worth using or whether it was just a gimmick. My first thoughts were it was well made from a robust plastic that was thick enough to stand up to a bit of abuse but no cumbersome. The specifications appeared right for my Hardy and Greys rods and it had a useful split ring to attach to my waist pack. It was now time to try it out.

In Practice – the first time I took the Fly Rod Saver out with me it was -3 degrees and the ground was frozen solid. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to to get it into the ground but then I think I would have struggled to get my Solar Stainless Steel banksticks in the ground it was so hard.

Since then I have used the Fly Rod Saver twice. It’s easy to get into the ground, the cross section spike means it doesn’t twist and it holds the rod nice and secure even in the strongest of winds. The FRS gripped my Hardy Demon nice and securely and I used it to set my leader up with no risk of me or anyone else treading on my rod.

Again when I caught a fish and was unhooking it I was able to pop the rod in the FRS no problem.

I found that the rod didn’t dislodge form the fly rod holder unless it was pulled really hard which is how I would want it.

Observations – Overall the FRs is a valuable pice of kit and I’m glad I’ve got my hands on one, the only thing I would suggest is the addition of a small foot step to allow you to push it into the ground with your foot.

Other than that it functions perfectly!

Tried out my new fly rod saver, it was a good windy day, so though there was definitely no problem putting it into the muddy ground – then rod popped straight into it and it held firmly even in the wind while setting up etc with no problems at all. Sometimes I tried it at a ‘rakish angle’ and it help the rod equally well that way too – nice and easy to pop the line through the rings if changing lines etc having it angled rather than straight up. I could also change reels while rod was still mounted onto the rod saver. Rod slips straight out of holder when needed with no problem (that is a neat trick – rod goes in easily, is held firmly, yet pops out easily when required) – arrives at fairly muddy fishing area and again handy to pop rod in holder and have it standing there safely (and clean) while sorting out a couple of bits and pieces.
There were a few people moving around and there was no worry that anyone was going to walk past and trip over / stand on the rod or trip over it myself either when I wasn’t actually fishing with it or when changing flies etc etc.
And that was the story of the afternoon – handy to have, easy to use, well made, lightweight, will definitely carry on using it.
Need to figure whether it might be useful to attach it via it’s ring attachment on to a zinger or suchlike and attach to my bag and then be in no danger of leaving it when you move positions but that will be easy to figure the way it works best for you.
